Functions of Upazila Parishad

 Preparation of five year and various term development plans

Implement the programs of various government departments handed over to the council and supervise and coordinate the work of those departments.

 Construction, repair and maintenance of inter-union connecting roads

 To take up and implement small scale irrigation projects in the Upazila Parishad as per the directions of the government to ensure optimum use of surface water resources.

 Ensuring public health, nutrition and family planning services

Improving sanitation and drainage system and providing drinking water supply

 Provide motivation and support for the expansion of education at the upazila level

 Supervise the activities of the concerned institutions and provide necessary assistance to improve the quality of secondary education and madrasa education activities.

 To undertake activities for the establishment and development of cottage and small scale industries

 Assist in the work of co-operative societies and non-governmental voluntary organizations and coordinate their work

 Provide and implement support for women, children, social welfare and youth, sports and cultural activities

 Adoption and implementation of activities for the development of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forest resources

 Discuss the activities of the police department including the improvement of law and order situation in the upazila and send regular reports to the higher authorities.

 Provide necessary assistance to the government for self-employment and poverty alleviation, self-initiated programs, implementation and implementation of government programs in this regard.

 Coordinating and inspecting the development programs of the Union Parishad and providing necessary assistance

Taking other preventive measures including creating public opinion against the organization of crimes like violence against women and children

 Take other preventive measures against terrorism, theft, robbery, smuggling, drug use etc.

To undertake other activities including social forestry for the protection and development of the environment

 Performing other functions assigned by the Government from time to time
